Don Pedro Island

This unspoiled little island is part of an extensive chain of barrier islands extending along the Gulf Coast of Florida. Between Knight Island and Little Gasparilla Island, Don Pedro is accessible only by car ferry or private boat. Zoning is entirely residential with no high-rises, and multi-family units can no longer be built.

Visitors can explore the sand roads, lagoons and harbors where they might see endangered animals such as West Indian manatees, gopher tortoises, bald eagles, and American oystercatchers. With 7 miles of wide white sand beaches, popular activities on the islandīs Gulf side include sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, and shelling. Boat and surf fishing, canoeing and kayaking are also favorite pastimes. Several excellent golf courses are just a ferry ride away.

Don Pedro Island is located about 9 miles south of Englewood, an hour south of Sarasota, about 75 minutes from Ft. Myers, and 90 minutes from Tampa. Boca Grande, on the next island to the south, is a mecca for restaurants and shopping. Nearby Venice and Port Charlotte provide the full range of businesses and services common to all mid-size communities.
